Footbonaut: An Astronaut in the Doughnut?
Last year I found this video on youtube: showed a passing drill facility on Borussia Dortmund, the Footbonaut. When I first looked that vid, suddenly I was starving because it sounds like doughnut and thought that it was a genius and also a cool way to drill your passing ability.
The major challenges of every coach is assessing players technique abilities. The necessity to develop such a 'measurable' protocol to evaluate players' footballing technique is really important. Unfortunately, I think most of football coaches still heavily rely (or overly belief) on their football-feelings. They determine their players' capability based on (only) their visual assessment. They come to the stadium, scouting the player and judge whether the player has a decent technique or just a flop. System like the Footbonaut gives a brilliant and genius standard to quantify players' passing ability.
Moreover, IMO, players would be very happy undergo this kind of training. It just like playing a (video) game. You should anticipate the incoming direction of the balls and push your eyes to find the goal, the blinking box. Perhaps, it feels like being an astronaut shooting the aliens in a cage located at Mars.
So, once again Germans show their class by making this brilliant and fun system to exercise football players passing. I hope one day i can make such a system :))
